Custom Art is beautiful…
and accessible.
Beautiful, one-of-a-kind paintings are not just for museums. They’re no longer the unattainable goods of the past. Let’s plan something beautiful for your home.
Unsure of how a commission works?
It’s an easy and fun process and I love getting to know my clients! In non-Covid times, we could meet at a local Des Moines-metro coffee shop or the space where you’d like the artwork. If you’re not local (and for all clients during Covid times!), a Zoom chat will be scheduled. Don’t worry, international friends – we’ll work around time zones. We’ll talk about what you love, sizing, colors, the subject, your goals and I’ll use those details to create something special for you. In the end, you’ll have a beautiful piece of art that will help tell your family’s story and elevate your art collection.
step 1
Fill out the inquiry form. Please include as much information as you can about the painting you have in mind. There is no obligation by inquiring – so you have nothing to lose!
step 2
Darcy will send lots of information and reach out to schedule a chat. Together, you’ll plan the piece. Once the commission contract and retainer are sent, the painting begins!
step 3
Your painting is created just for you in Darcy’s signature style. A reveal will be planned for you to approve your painting. Once complete, your painting is delivered or shipped to your home.
I’m not saying art changes the world but…
Art represents life and our spaces are our refuge. If 2020 taught us nothing, it taught us that home is where we go, where we shelter, and we fill it with the other people who make our house a home. Filling our homes with beautiful art brings our spaces to life, it reminds us of those faces we are lucky enough to call our tribe. Art is color. Art is happiness. Art is vitality. Showing up in art proves we existed… and thrived.
“Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colors flowers, so does art color life.”― John Lubbock
“The main thing is to be moved, to love, to hope, to tremble, to live.” – Auguste Rodin.

FAQ:
- Q: What kind of paint is used?
A: Acrylic. - Q: On which medium does the artist paint?
A: The artist prefers to paint on woodblock. - Q: What is the turnaround time?
A: Currently 3-6 weeks, but the art agreement allows for 12. This timing is fluid with demand. - Q: Will the painting look like my loved one?
A: The artist uses non-typical color for an abstract representation of the reference you provide. If you wish for an exact likeness, or literal translation, the artist also has a photography business and is available for photos. Paintings are non-realistic and are suggestive of the reference but not painted in realism. Non-flesh tones, unexpected use of color, bold, abstract paintings should bear a likeness but will not look realistic or identical to the source. A flattering and beautiful suggestion of the subject is always the goal! - Q: How will I hang or display my painting?
A: We’ll chat about how you intend to display your piece to determine the best way for you. Commonly for hanging, a wire can be placed on the back and hanging hardware will be provided. Framing and trimming is available. You may wish to lean the artwork on a mantle, shelf, easel, or furniture. The artist is not responsible for the artwork and what a finisher may do to it once it is delivered. This is a one-of-a-kind heavy piece. Although sturdy, please care for it with great delicacy. - Q: It costs less to commission a single-subject painting than a multiple-subject painting. Why?
A: Each likeness takes the artist time and in many cases, two (or more) subjects require a complexity not present in single-subject compositions. The artist recommends one subject per painting and quotes are based on the number of subjects in the piece. Multiple-subject commissions may also require a larger working surface to accommodate multiple faces.
